What Is Ceramic Anti-Seize?

Anti-seize lubricant is an important element in the automotive, marine, industrial, and aerospace industries that can help prolong the lifespan of motor parts and fasteners. Ceramic anti-seize is often your best choice in places where two different metals contact each other, or where the parts may come into contact with acid.

What Is Anti-Seize?

Typically anti-seize is composed of small metallic particles and a carrier substance, like grease. 

Anti-seize, such as ceramic anti-seize, is a lubricant used to protect metal components and parts from corrosion and friction. You can apply it to fasteners so they don’t become stuck when being assembled or disassembled. This is especially important in exhaust systems and engines where high temperatures and pressure can cause metals to corrode faster than usual. 

You can also use anti-seize on bearings, valves, and other parts to help increase their lifespan.

Ceramic anti-seize is also a good choice for high-temperature applications. It is resistant to temperatures ranging from -22 F to 2700 F. It is also ideal for parts that are regularly disassembled for service and routine maintenance work and on ABS brake systems.

An additional benefit of a ceramic-based compound is that it is safe to use, as it is free of heavy metals.

What’s the Best Way to Apply and Use Ceramic Anti-Seize?

To ensure that anti-seize performs its function, you need to apply it correctly. Here are tips to help ensure your applications are clean and functional:

  • Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Ensure you’re using the right compound for the application.
  • Use a conservative amount of anti-seize. Too much or too little can affect performance.
  • Clean up the excess carefully.
  • Properly secure the fasteners.
  • Store in a cool, dry place

When Should You Avoid Using Ceramic Anti-Seize?

Because ceramic anti-seize is non-conductive, it is not appropriate for spark plugs, electrical connections, or anywhere else where current should be flowing. Copper-based anti-seize compounds are a much better option.

You should never apply anti-seize to non-metallic surfaces, such as rubber, or on certain wheel bearings or axle joints.
