Select the Right Size and Shape of Fasteners

A set of trim removal tools helps to get into tight places so you can place retainer clips.

Trim clip removal is just as straightforward. Remove the screw in or twist fasteners by reversing direction, just as you would with a standard screw.  You can often pry old push clips from trim pieces using a flat-edged tool. However, the correct method is to use a special pop fastener removal tool. The two main types will have either a forked, flat end that slips under the fastener head to pry it up or sharp, flat blades that slip under the head so you can snip it.
